Orchid or wildflower ?

Its been a month since I’ve had the time to post a new article.
Well, being uprooted and re-planted took approximately a month. From the hill station-esque weather of Bangalore, we have relocated to Vellore( with its unforgiving sun).
When you leave a place, you also leave behind everything that was familiar- from the friendly neighborhood pug ‘Tittu’ to that grand sprawling tree in the backyard. I’ve been moping about- feeling a mixture of self-pity, anxiety and helplessness for the last few weeks. Like anybody else, I too detest being plucked out of my comfort zone.

And here I was – in a new place with new everything. As I was wallowing in my misery, contemplating on how unfair life could be that I was ushered into such soul-scorching heat with the heavy duty responsibility of being the woman-in -charge, I decided to do something smart. I picked up this book I had read last year -‘The Mountain is You’ by Brianna West for a re-read.

When you arrive at this breaking point -the foot of the mountain,the heat of the fire,if you are willing to do the work, you will find that it is the entry way to the breakthrough you have spent your entire life waiting for.Your old self can no longer sustain the life you are trying to lead;it is time for reinvention and rebirth.You must release your old self into the fire of your vision and be willing to think in a way you have never even tried before.You must mourn the loss of your younger self, the person who has gotten you this far but who is no longer equipped to carry you onward.You must change completely, never to be the same again.
In the end, it is not the mountain that you must master, but yourself.

Slowly, I was starting to realize something- a new challenge requires a new you;
A stronger, more unbreakable version.
Any major upheaval in life- be it getting into residency, having a baby or moving to a different city, demands a tougher version of you.
And as we keep evolving and metamorphosing through these ordeals of life, we keep getting closer to becoming the person we were meant to be.

Maybe I wasn’t an orchid as I’d imagined.
Maybe I was always meant to be a wildflower.
